Renon

The plateau of Renon is one of the most popular escapes for the population of Bolzano. Elevated at an altitude of up to 1400 metres, it’s the perfect place for visitors looking for quietness and amazing landscape. The administrative district comprises a total of 17 villages, 15 of which are located on the plateau. If you expect to find harsh weather because of the altitude, you might be surprised as Renon is said to have 300 sunny days per year! In the plateau you can wander around villages, exploring the alleys flanked by traditional mountain houses and relishing locally prepared meals at one of the many restaurants. Nature is the main attraction of the area with plenty of forests, mountain pastures, hiking routes and stunning views.
For the most active visitors, it’s also possible to reach Renon by hiking from Bolzano in just a few hours, starting from Sant'Osvaldo path and going further in the direction of Peter Ploner building. Another option is cycling the steep road leading to the top of the plateau. Moreover, the recently opened cable car connects Bolzano to Oberbozen, one of the villages of the plateau, in just 12 minutes. If you come here to visit, then you should stay for the evening so as not to miss the amazing sunset, rendering the mountains an amazing pinkish hue!
