IRCTC living up to its promise, will pay INR 1.62 lakh to passengers for Tejas Express delay

For the first time in history, the Indian Railways will be paying compensation to passengers because of the train delay. Living up to its promise, IRCTC is all set to pay INR 1.62 lakhs to 950 passengers as Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express got delayed for more than three hours on 19 October, 2019. The railways will pay this compensation through its insurance companies as per railway officials.
What happened?

It all started on 19 October when Tejas Express started from Lucknow for Delhi at around 9:55 AM instead of its scheduled departure which is at 6:10 AM. The train, instead of reaching the New Delhi station at 12:25 PM (scheduled time), reached at 3:40 PM.

Then from New Delhi, it was supposed to depart at 3:35 PM for Lucknow but it left the station at around 5:30 PM instead. The train reached Lucknow station at around 11:30 PM instead of scheduled time which is 10:05 PM.
The delay was caused by a derailment near Kanpur.

What happens now?

There were 450 passengers travelling in Tejas Express from Lucknow to Delhi who will get compensation of INR 250 (each). On the other hand, there were nearly 500 passengers from Delhi to Lucknow, who will get INR 100 each.

According to one of the railway officials, every passenger can avail this compensation through a link of the insurer provided with every ticket of the Tejas Express.
