Ranganathaswamy Temple

Ranganathaswamy Temple in Kalkunte Agrahara village in Bangalore is the perfect example of Vijayanagara style of architecture. Constructed in the 16th century, the temple is dedicated to Sri Ranganathaswamy (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) and is visited by a large number of tourists every year. The beautifully and skilfully carved pillars are the main attractions here. Besides, in the sanctum sanctorum or garbhagriha of the temple, travellers can see beautifully carved idols of Sri Ranganathaswamy and his consorts Sri Bhudevi and Neela Devi. A host of festivals are held at the temple, amongst which the Chariot Festival (Rathotsavam) and Bangalore Karaga Festival are the prime ones, attracting travellers and devotees from all across the country.
