The Mysore zoo is located within the city and is a lovely place for both adults and children. It was established in 1892 by the then king Chamrajendra Wadiyar and is among the oldest and largest in the country. It contains over 850 animals from over 110 species. It is set amidst 10 acres of lush green vegetation and pleasant gardens. It houses some exotic animals from different parts of the world, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions and kangaroos apart from favourites such as crocs, hippos, rhinos and various species of big cats. There is also a snake park with anacondas and an aviary. The animals tend to be most active early in the morning and in the late afternoon. For those who want a bit more, you could stroll through the gardens. There’s also a library and museum within the premises.
