Even if it’s something very safe but different from others, it has our attention. One such out-of-the-ordinary place we have for you is the Muzhappilangad Beach in Kannur, Kerala.

What makes this beach unusual, you ask? Muzhappilangad Beach is the only beach, not only in Kerala, but in the whole of India where you can actually drive your vehicle. So, what does it mean to be the only drive-in beach in India and Kerala?


As India’s only drive-in beach, you have a beautiful 4 km stretch of sand where you can freely drive right next to the water. Muzhappilangad Beach is also the longest drive-in beach in Asia and it has found a place for itself in the world’s top beaches for driving. How is that for a cool beach?


Come for the drive and stay for the view and the general vibe of the place. The beach is located on the Malabar Coast and the view is to die for. The sunset scene especially.


There’s a beach festival in the month of April where you will get to see some of the coolest car and bike stunts. Now, if you have never done this before, we don’t recommend you try it. You can be a very enthusiastic spectator too!



If driving on the beach is not what you have in mind, visit the beach anyway. We hear the food out here is excellent. Malabar cuisine, after all. A number of beach shacks have opened up and they serve delicious bites.


We recommend you visit the beach during the low tide. Mainly for the drive-in experience, but also because during the low tide, you will be able to walk over to the nearby Dharmadam Island from Dharmadam beach, which is just a short distance away from the Muzhappilangad beach. Dharmadam Island is just 100-200 m away.
