Tanah Lot is one of the most important sea temples, dedicated to Dewa Baruna or the sea god. Built in 17th century over a tiny rock formation, Tanah Lot’s location makes it the most beautiful temple by the sea. Nestled on a tiny island off the southern shore, the temple is accessible only during low tides. During the high tide, the causeway is submerged under water. Azure blue waters surrounding all the sides of the island and waves lashing the rocks, makes this a perfect postcard picture site. The constant thrashing of waves endangered the existence of the temple. It went through massive restoration in 1980s. Now one third of rock formation is in fact artificial. Tanah Lot gets pretty crowded in the evening, tourists flock to the restaurants across the temple to witness the sunset! Whether you like the crowd or not, you will certainly cherish the memory of breathtaking sunset for a lifetime!
