Pura Taman Ayun is a Hindu water temple surrounded by beautiful gardens, as the name suggests, ‘Taman Ayun’ means ‘beautiful garden’. Built in 17th century, the temple is surrounded by a water moat covered with Lotus flowers. Pura Taman Ayun was originally a royal temple belonging to Mengwi royal family. It is now open to public. The temple complex consists of three courts, each being separated by split gates. The serene courtyard can be entered through a split gate and is littered with around 50 shrines with characteristic multi tiered merus. Paved pathways lead to different shrines and small ponds, all surrounded by beautiful well kept gardens. Pura Taman Ayun is located just 10 kms from Tanah Lot and can be covered during the same trip. The tranquil surroundings of the temple is definitely inviting and rejuvenating for a tired soul!
