Pragati Maidan Metro Station and other roads renamed; plans underway to turn Delhi ala London-Tokyo

The naming committee of Delhi government has announced its decision to change the names of a few roads, bridges and a metro station in the national capital.

News has it that Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister took the call to change the name of the Pragati Maidan Metro Station to Supreme Court Metro Station. As of now, the metro station board bears the old name, and the government will change the name into Supreme Court Metro Station in a month or so.
Additionally, Mukarba Chowk and its flyover have been renamed as Captain Vikram Batra, who gave up his life fighting Pakistani troops in the 1999 Kargil War and was posthumously bestowed with Param Vir Chakra.

In addition, the naming committee has decided to rename the Lajpat Nagar flyover as Jhulelal Setu. On the other hand, the popular MG Road shall be named as Acharya Tulsi Marg. Other roads, including the Ranibagh Gol Chakkar will be renamed as Maharshi Dayanand Chowk and Shakti Nagar Chowk as Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk.

The Delhi government clarified that the renaming procedure has been done after the interest expressed by the residents of Delhi. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has promised that he will turn the roads of Delhi like those of London and Tokyo in the coming years if he is re-elected to the office of the CM. He also told the press that he wants to give a makeover to Delhi, and 40 roads in Delhi will be redesigned by November.
