PM Narendra Modi urges Indians to visit 15 domestic destinations by 2022

India celebrated Independence Day on August 15, 2019, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech urged Indians to travel to at least 15 domestic tourist destinations by 2022. The idea is to improve tourism in India, with the Prime Minister saying that there is a huge scope to improve tourism in India.

The Prime Minister further said that India has a lot to offer, and we will be able to attract more international tourists by increasing domestic tourism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I know people travel abroad for holidays but can we think of visiting at least 15 tourist destinations across India before 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom."

The PM also said that local destinations that do not have proper hotels or infrastructure must also be visited, as such visits will give a boost to tourism. This, then, will lead to better facilities in those areas, and will be beneficial for all. One of the main things that need a push from Indians, according to the Prime Minister, is local products. He said that we have to make local products more attractive, as each region has something unique to offer. He said, “Our guiding principle is Zero Defect, Zero Effect.”
