Mumbai, being a bustling metropolis, can be a bit hectic too. It’s not uncommon to find yourself wishing for a quick getaway, even if it is not to a faraway destination. There are a number of cool destinations located within 100 km from Mumbai that offer a number of cool and unique experiences. Here are some of them.
Elephanta Caves
Located about 26 km from the city of Mumbai, Elephanta Island is home to the famous Elephanta Caves, the ancient rock-cut caves most popular for stunning sculptures and carvings.
Alibaug
The coastal town of Alibaug is located approximately 95 km from Mumbai. This coastal town is one of the favourite holiday destinations of the rich and famous Bollywood celebrities. The beaches in Alibaug are beautiful and the nightlife is vibrant.
Matheran
Located just 83 km from the bustling city of Mumbai, Matheran is a hill station that is also a Vehicle-Free Zone. If you are driving to Matheran, you will have to leave your vehicle outside Matheran town, in a place called Dasturi Naka. From here on, you can either walk or take a horseback ride or a rickshaw.
Kanheri Caves
Situated within the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the Kanheri Caves are approximately 40 km from Mumbai. This ancient Buddhist cave site is great for a day trip. The rock-cut architecture of these caves are splendid.
Karnala Bird Sanctuary
Karnala Bird Sanctuary is located around 47 km from Mumbai. This sanctuary is best known for its resident bird species. For birding enthusiasts, Karnala Bird Sanctuary offers a great opportunity for bird watching and trekking.
Karjat
Located approximately 62 km from Mumbai, Karjat town is one of the most beautiful destinations in Maharashtra. The scenic town is surrounded by mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, and is a popular destination for trekking and other adventure activities.
Lonavala
The hill station of Lonavala is one of the prettiest in India. The town is surrounded by green valleys and fascinating caves. Lonavala is also a popular honeymoon destination. October to March is the best time to visit Lonavala. Lonavala is located approximately 83 km from Mumbai.
Khandala
The neighbouring town of Khandala, also sometimes referred to as Lonavala’s twin, is located just 79 km from Mumbai. Mumbai to Khandala is also a popular road trip that a lot of adventure enthusiasts love to do.
Durshet
Situated around 77 km from Mumbai, Durshet is a lesser-known hill station with lovely landscapes, pleasant climate, and plenty of trekking opportunities.
