Parambikulam National Park

Is there a national park that has view points, a dam and allows you to discover its many secrets? Yes, indeed the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary has all of this and more. Located in Kerala, this forest is close to the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in neighbouring Tamil Nadu and is a forest filled with bamboo, sandalwood, rosewood and teak trees with some patches of grassland. First stop is at the Orientation Center where a short video on what can be seen at the park is shown. You can also pick up some souvenirs at the Vanasree Shop here. After this, we were taken to the Sungam Tribal Colony on the fringes of the forest. Our next stop was at Thunakadavu Dam, a picturesque sight where the still waters of the dam against the mountains and thick forest make for a compelling sight. Next comes Kannimara, which is said to be one of the oldest and largest teak trees. Then you stop by at two vantage points, namely Dam View Point and Valley View Point which offer fantastic views of the topography and make for great photo-ops! The last stop was at Parambikulam Dam. Incidentally, the Parambikulam Aliya multipurpose project involves a series of dams interconnected by tunnels and canals at various elevations to tap water from the rivers in this region and is used for irrigation and power generation.
