This flat expanse of river crossed country is the world’s largest wetland; the whole region floods in the wet season allowing for a huge range of aquatic plants to flourish. Caiman, 80 other kinds of reptile, more than 600 types of bird and around 400 different fish species are also supported by the wetland.
