Pakistan to open Panj Tirath Temple for Indian pilgrims this month

Pakistan is all set to throw open the doors of another historical temple to Indian pilgrims this year. It recently declared Panj Tirath a national heritage, and that it will now open the restored temple to pilgrims this month. It was also an important place of worship for Hindus before the partition.

As per news reports, the Panj Tirath Temple in Peshawar will likely be opened this month and is believed to be built on the site, where Pandavas lived for a while during their exile. Reportedly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has already declared it a national heritage.Currently, there are five pools in the temple premises that are being restored to meet the deadline of January inauguration. As per legends, King Pandu from the Mahabharata bathed in the temple’s pools and worshipped in the area. Once it is thrown open, it will become the second Hindu religious site to be opened by the Pakistan government in the recent time. Last year, the 1000-year-old Shivala Teja Singh was also opened for pilgrims in Sialkot.
Pakistan’s Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Aamir Ahmad, while talking to the press, stated that the restoration work of the temple was already in progress and that they are going to inaugurate the temple in January.

Also, on November 9, 2019, on the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, the Kartarpur corridor was opened to connect Sikh shrines, i.e., Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur (in Punjab, Pakistan) and Dera Baba Nanak Sahib (in Punjab, India). Ahead of opening this corridor, Pakistan opened Gurudwara Choa Sahib, which is situated close to Rohtas Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Jhelum.
