A part of the University of Otago, this museum specialises in the culture and heritage of the local region. There are over 2 million pieces in the collection, mainly relevant to study in the fields of natural science and human history. People come to see the collection of ceramics, classical Melanesia artefacts and the exhibition about New Zealand birdlife, which includes the remains of moas and other unique looking birds from the past.
