Visit the Old Melbourne Gaol, the city’s oldest prison and the very place Australia’s most controversial bushranger, Ned Kelly, was hanged in 1880. The heart of crime law and order in Melbourne since the 1840s, visitors are invited to explore all three levels of the prison including the execution area and come face to face with Ned Kelly’s death mask. Take your own chilling tour through the secrets and history of the gaol. Join the change sergeant on a tour of the former Police City Watch House and see the cells or take a ghost evening tour. Don’t miss the ‘Such is Life’ performance free every Wednesday and Saturday at 12.30pm and 2pm, exploring Ned Kelly’s life and legend. During school holidays, children can take part in the recreation of a famous trial in the Old Magistrate’s Court. Save time and book or pre-purchase your tickets online.
