Spitting paan! It’s one of the most common and obnoxious views that grace our sight when we are travelling or just step outside our home in India. This very common practice of paan stains at public places by India-origin people has prompted the city councils in Britain to impose a fine. The issue has become so rampant that the irked British authorities in Leicester city have set up sign boards for them, which read that anyone found spitting paan will be fined around INR 13000. The text on the board has been written in two languages, i.e., in English and Gujarati, thereby making it clear as to for whom the message is intended.
What is notable here is that this task of imposing fine on paan-spitting is the third effort by the UK Government to control this menace, with a fine being levied previously in 2010 and 2014 too. Furthermore, Birmingham and Bradford have also imposed fines to deal with the issue.
