India’s first canopy walk is going to be open for tourists in mid-November in the Western Ghats; it was previously inaugurated in February but was closed due to monsoon season. It was inaugurated on February 18, 2018, by R. V. Deshpande, the then Industries Minister.
Available only in a few countries around the world, the canopy walk is deemed to attract tourists to India’s Western Ghats. While there were some objections made by environmentalists initially, the project was cleared by authorities later.
As per reports, the canopy walk is going to cost INR 500 for adults, and INR 300 for children below 12 years of age. It will be operated by Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR). Also, basic public conveniences such as toilets, and drinking water are being put in place. Local drivers are being pulled in to ferry passengers to the spot, and locals will get an opportunity to sell food at the location in due time.
