Wildlife enthusiasts have plenty to explore in Assam and Nameri National Park is a place where a traveler can find a flora and fauna heaven. Spread across 200 square km along the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, Nameri National Park is a bird–watchers’ paradise with over 300 species of birds, both resident and migrating. The park is enriched by the Jia- Bhoroli river and its tributaries namely the Diji, Dinai, Doigurung, Nameri, Dikorai and Khari. Jungle safaris are to be availed in this park and prime wildlife include tiger, leopard, black panther, sloth bear, Himalayan black bear, elephant, Indian bison, dhole, sambar, barking deer, Indian hare, capped langur, Assamese macaque, Malayan giant squirrel and wild pig. The national park is surrounded by numerous resorts and camping options. They are unlike the city hotels and give you the feel of living amid a jungle and are perfect for spending a weekend far from the madding crowd!
