Mysuru and Hampi likely to get double-decker buses for sightseeing by December

Mysuru and Hampi might soon see double-decker buses on the lines of London’s Big Bus model. The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has decided to introduce these buses for sightseeing in Mysuru and Hampi. As per news reports, the bus servies will likely commence from December this year.
Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had allotted INR 5 crore to launch six double-decker buses for sight-seeing in Hampi and Mysuru. As of now, KSTDC has prepared a tender to execute this plan and help the tourism department procure around six double-decker buses. The department also plans to promote this bus service via online reservation facilities, and also host guided tours on these buses.
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) introduced seven air-conditioned hop-on-hop-off buses in 2014. The service had starting points across Bengaluru and was launched to facilitate sightseeing for tourists and residents.
In May this year, KSRTC, Mysuru City Division, launched Darshini Package Tour for local sightseeing spots. The tourist spots that this package tour covers in Mysuru are the Chamundi Hill, Mysuru Zoo, Sand Museum, Regional Museum of Natural History, Mysore Palace, KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens.
Referring to this development, an official from Mysore Travel Association said that the tourism department’s plan to operate double-decker buses is a good plan and has received a good response from stakeholders in the tourism industry, and it is expected that this move will help develop tourism in Mysuru.
