Just a short one-hour-long drive up from the state capital of Dehradun, Mussoorie is ideal for a short weekend break. In the winter months, snowfall starts towards the end of December and transforms the lush green landscape into a beautiful blanket of white, offering panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas around and the Doon valley below. Popularly referred to as the Queen of the Hills, this charming little hill station lies cocooned in the Garhwal hills and is the perfect getaway from the plains. Another good reason for visiting Mussoorie during the winter months, is the phenomenon referred to as ‘the winter line’. From mid-October till January, every sunset brings with it myriad shades of orange, red, yellow and purple. The only other place this occurs, is in Switzerland. You can relax, shop for antique Jamawar Shawls and traditional Garhwali clothes, stroll through the mall, eat at some of the precious little cafes and head out in the mornings to the outskirts with a picnic basket. For accommodation, Jaypee Residency Manor is good if you're looking to holiday in style, aside from which there are plenty of mid-range and budget options as well.

A beautiful hill station ruined by overbuilding and cluttering up the hillsides. Go there to meet the people who you plan to run away from. They will all be there.Read More
