Well, the temple is noted for its ‘musical pillars’ the prime attraction of the place. Yes, you read that right! There are musical pillars in this temple and no one can explain the process.
About Vittala Temple
It is said that the temple was built for Vittala m, who was a simple person. The moment he entered the temple and saw how grand it was, he immediately left the temple and returned to his modest life in Pandharpur.
The unsolved mystery behind the musical pillars
The temple features 56 musical pillars, which are also famous as SaReGaMa pillars because of the musical notes coming out of them. These musical notes can be heard clearly when someone taps these pillars.
Each pillar here supports the ceiling and the main pillars are styled in the shape of musical instruments. Also, the main pillar is surrounded with seven smaller pillars and the notes coming from these pillars have different sounds. These smaller pillars work as strings of the musical pillars and change the sound. Hit the pillars with sandalwood and you’ll be amazed to hear the musical notes coming from them.
What’s intriguing is that no one knows the reason behind these pillars’ sound!
