It so happened then that the families started checking on one another and found out that a total of 18 families witnessed similar action in their homes with tap flowing with alcohol instead of water. This put the locals of the area into frenzy.
Latest reports suggest that the mystery was then solved when some residents approached the authorities of municipality to enquire about the matter. The ‘hiccup’ was then traced to an excise department operation that took place in the said area a few days ago. The excise team had apparently tried to dump seized liquor, which had gone terribly wrong.
However, to rectify the situation, the unimpressed residents knocked the doors of Chalakudy municipal secretary and health department to take action against the excise officials. Referring to this, Deputy Excise Commissioner TK Sanu said the well had been cleaned around eight times to get rid of all traces of liquor in the water. And that clean water will be provided to the affected families until the water becomes completely clean.
