If you are planning a trip to Europe, make sure that Dubrovnik, rightly known as 'The Pearl of the Adriatic', is a part of your itinerary. Located on the Adriatic Sea, this prosperous and historical city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is beautiful, well preserved, and culturally rich and has a string of good restaurants and lovely bars. There is so much to be seen and done in Dubrovnik that you will stay occupied while you are there. But should you feel like a change of scene, there are equally beautiful places within a short distance and it is easy to escape for a quick weekend getaway. The Elafiti Islands are a small group of islands to the north of Dubrovnik. Each of these islands makes for a pleasant weekend getaway. There are plenty of hotels, cafes and restaurants. Don’t miss out on the fish and seafood, which is undoubtedly the best you might ever have. You can also venture further off to idyllic Hvar Island, which pampers guests with the best of Croatian wines, cheeses and breads. For something different, head to Daksa—a ghost island. Daksa is close to Dubrovnik but not many tourists go there as it has a dark past. If island life isn’t for you, then explore the cultural and historical gems of the area. You can even drive to a neighbouring country—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, or Albani—for a quick weekend getaway.
Here are few of the great weekend trips which you can take from Dubrovnik—go ahead and explore all you can and make the most of your vacation, while you are there.
