Visiting Lake Louise needs a bit of deliberation, a day trip from Banff, a night in palatial Fairmont Chateau, or a week or more in the quaint Lake Louise Village. Forty minutes out of Banff, and your first hit is the Lake Louise Village, a conglomeration servicing you with refreshments, gas, and visitor’s information. The Road ahead is paved with blooming wildflowers and glacial streams, a sort of Red Carpet leading to this marvel.
Lake Louise is a turquoise natural wonder, its appeal indescribable in words, but I will try. Its flawlessly stained waters contained within a ring of towering peaks, its waters so inviting, nothing formidable, nothing mysterious (otherwise atypical of Lakes in the Rockies), just pure exhilaration. Locals say that the lake dons its best early morning, when its surface glistens in the sun’s glory, but it’s never enough for the crowds that sit by it all day.
Rent a Canoe, and be amidst the greenish-blue hues that you admired from its banks, the sounds of wild and the views of the Victoria glacier are far more vivid now. Soar above the treetops, in an open chair-lift, with its 14 minutes ride chance enough for grizzly spotting.
Fairmont Chateau stands on its shores, its grandiose redolent of a princely abode. Offering luxury stay, spa, dining, and mountain activities, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has spanned a century, and has many more to go.
My only yearning remains, to come back at it again, for I am yet to witness its frozen surface in winters, a different view, and a different story.
