Perhaps the most prosperous address in Johannesburg, Sandton is home to the affluent and is a haven for luxury travellers. The love child of the suburbs of Bryanston and Sandown, this area is now the financial hub of South Africa considering the seismic shift from Jo’burg’s Central Business District in the early 90s. With Sandton City, Village Walk and the Nelson Mandela Square as its shining gems, this neighbourhood is known for its shopping complexes. The presence of five star hotels like the Intercontinental, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Radisson, Park and Marriott only add to its popularity. The best cafes, restaurants and bars of Johannesburg can be found in Sandton and notable names include Trumps Grillhouse and Butchery (Don’t worry! It is not associated with the US President), Pigalle, Hard Rock Cafe, Pappas, Hogshead and Gold Diggers. You will also find a big number of consulates and embassies in this district along with major banks, head offices of important international organisations and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
