Marsh’s Library

As much as James Joyce’s writing is difficult to understand, the writer himself is very popular. The ancient Marsh’s Library, located adjacent to St Patrick’s Cathedral, was built in the beginning of the 18th century and was the first public library in Ireland with over 25000 ancient books and 300 manuscripts. It is also known to be haunted. But quite apart from that, Joyce is known to have spent a few days going through some ancient tomes and the library is referenced in Ulysses. The main table at the reading room at the end of the library has a little note outlining all this and indicates that Joyce would have sat at the table to read books.
