If you are planning your honeymoon in India, then look beyond the regular destinations and consider the gorgeous and the super romantic city of Mandu in Madhya Pradesh. This pretty city will certainly enchant honeymooners with its views. Far from the madding crowd, Mandu or Mandav was once also known as Shadiabad (City of Joy). Mandu is also renowned for its famous royal love story of Baz Bahadur and Rupmati, the lovers who couldn’t unite when they were alive.
Let’s see what Mandu holds for romance seekers.
Rewa kund and Rani Roopmati pavilion: A little hike up from Baz Bahadur Palace will take you to Rani Rupmati’s pavilion and Rewa Kund. Standing on the edge of the hill, the place has long corridors and Rewa Kund (water reservoir). The kund was built by Baz Bahadur so that Rani Roopmati could never run out of water. The water was supplied in the whole building through an aqueduct.
On the other hand, Rupmati’s Pavilion is a beauty beyond words; this was the place from where she used to look at Baz Bahadur’s Palace and the Narmada River. Stay here to watch the sunset or try visiting early in the morning with your better half as the views are absolutely stunning and romantic.
Neelkanth Palace: Around 4 km from the city lies the splendid Neelkanth Palace which is actually a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple stands on the place of an ancient shrine that was transformed into Akbar’s governor pleasure palace. But the palace was reclaimed and converted back into a temple later. So what you see today is a temple displaying Islamic style architecture with a Shiva Linga installed at its centre. There’s also pretty little waterfall just behind the temple, which adds beauty to the whole place.
