Maharashtra is celebrating Maharashtra Day today! So every year, on May 1, the state commemorates the creation of Maharashtra. Back in 1960 on this day, two states were formed, Maharashtra and Gujarat, based on linguistic lines. Maharashtra was set up for the Marathi-speaking population while Gujarat for Gujarati-speaking people. The day is of immense significance for Maharashtrians as it is a symbol of their unity and identity. On this note, let’s have a look at some of the famous places to visit in Maharashtra in May.

Mumbai
Mumbai, the ‘City of Dreams’ and the capital of Maharashtra, is noted for being home to a range of interesting and historic attractions such as the iconic Gateway of India, the super awesome Marine Drive, the ancient Elephanta Caves, and colourful street markets like Colaba Causeway and Crawford Market. The city is also famous for its religious attractions including the Siddhivinayak Temple and Haji Ali Dargah, among others.
