A non-stop 20-hour flight has now been proposed between London and Sydney, and it will take you halfway around the world!
Proposed by Qantas Airways, the non-stop 20-hour flight is set to be the longest commercial flight in the world. All things considered, passenger comfort should be of utmost priority for such a long-distance flight, though the news reports suggest otherwise. The flight is not going to have bunks or beds for passengers, but instead, it will have enough space to stretch and enough water to drink.
The flight also faces challenges in regards to filling it up with passengers, as the places that have been proposed by Boeing Co. and Airbus SE for this flight would not be able to carry the total number of passengers for this long. Also, pilots need to agree to work longer hours to make the longest commercial flight a possibility.
Currently, the record for the longest flight is claimed by Singapore Airlines that operated a flight between Singapore and New York on October 11, 2018. It arrived at the Newark Liberty International Airport the next day after 17 hours and 52 minutes of flying. Singapore Airlines completed this incredible feat with Airbus A350-900ULR and is currently still running every week.
