The Chandigarh International Airport has been closed until February 26 for all kinds of air traffic as the authorities intend to carry out airport runway expansion and repairs.
While the flight operations will be resumed at the airport from February 27, by then the airport will be in a much better state because of the changes that are supposed to take place on it.

This expansion is expected to make the air carriers capable of operating long haul international flights from Chandigarh to destinations like Europe, the US, and Australia.
Although the Chandigarh airport is controlled by the Indian Air Force as a transport squadron, the same runway is also used for the operation of around 30 commercial flights on a daily basis, including international flights to places like Dubai, Sharjah, and Bangkok.
In response to this airport closure, the Punjab and Haryana Court has asked Indian Railway officials to make alternative arrangements for catering to the increased demand in the next 15 days.
