A favourite hangout of the locals and tourists is the Kota Barrage Dam located over Chambal River. Being an important water reservoir in the state of Rajasthan, the barrage covers an area of more than 27,332 square kilometres. Evenings witness a footfall of picnickers keen on breathing in the fresh air pervading the area, and the gushing waters act as music to many ears. A Shiva temple known by the name of Kansua is located close to the barrage. It is unique for the four-faced Shiva lingam which is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum. The barrage lies on the outskirts of Kota city. Steer clear of the temptation to plunge into the waters of the dam for a swim as this place as already witnessed many deaths in the past due to drowning.
