Kolkata: Sound and Light Show to light up the iconic Howrah Bridge

The iconic Howrah Bridge will light up with a new sound and light show on January 11. This is as per a project of Kolkata Port Trust (KPT) as part of its 150th-anniversary celebrations. As per the reports, this new light and sound show will be unveiled by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per a senior official from the KPT, this new concept will help attract tourists and locals to this spot. Reportedly, the new arrangement will be replacing the existing decorative lighting with 650 LED and spotlights for programmable multi-colour lighting, which will include a show that will be synced with music. As per reports, on January 11, when the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the light and sound show, it will be a 2.5 min show, with a sound system installed at the Millenium Park.
Later, music will be synced on a mobile app, which will enable people to enjoy the show from any location to make this concept more interesting, stated the KPT official. The official also mentioned that the bridge will light up in different colours on a daily basis for around two hours.
Believed to the busiest bridge in the world, Howrah Bridge is an engineering marvel, built with no nuts and bolts, and no pillars to support its suspension over River Hooghly. Yet, the bridge witnesses more than 1.15 lakh vehicles plying on it every day, besides more than five lakh pedestrians.
The Howrah Bridge has been there for seven decades and has witnessed some of the major historical events, both in the pre-Independence era as well as afterwards. With it being one of the most important landmarks in Kolkata, it already is a tourists’ favourite and the latest development will further lure people to visit it.
