Kirkstall Abbey is just 3.5 miles away from the Leeds city center. It’s easy to get a cab that costs less than £10 to reach the ruins of the Abbey. This medieval Cistercian Abbey is one of the most impressive and offbeat ruins in the country. It is situated in the midst of vast parkland on the banks of River Aire. It offers the perfect introduction to the life of 12-century monks. The visitor center is extremely family friendly. Here it is possible to see a collection of fascinating images of the Abbey dating to the eighteenth century. We would highly recommend making a day of it. Pack a picnic and feast on sandwiches, milkshakes, and cookies once you’re done exploring the Abbey. Once you’re satiated, walk along one of the designated trails in the area. All trails offer amazing views of the Yorkshire countryside. It’s easy to take a cab back to the city center even late at night.
