Kerala Tourism has always stood ahead in gathering tourists from around the world, and the result of this is that the Kerala government has launched a new tourism policy of targeting 100% increase in the arrival of foreign tourist, and 50% of domestic tourists in five years.

Sustainable tourism initiatives will form the major part of Kerala tourism domestic campaign this year.
Although Kerala has registered a remarkable increase in international and domestic tourist arrivals during 2016, according to the government the international arrivals to Kerala saw an increase of 6.25%, over the previous years with 10,38,419 tourist arriving.
The domestic arrivals to Kerala recorded an increase of 5.67% with 1, 31,72,535 tourist arriving to the state. The total tourism revenue of the state increased 11.12% compared to 2015.

To ensure the accomplishment of an ambitious target, the role of Kerala's tourist police has been increased to look after security, and various new destinations and activities have been identified, especially for foreign tourists.
Also, the government has plans to restore the heritage sites and to set up museums in Kochi to provide a wholesome experience to its travellers.
