Kerala floods: Red alert issued in 4 districts due to heavy rains

The state of Kerala is once again under the wrath of nature due to heavy rains; red alert has been issued in four prime districts, Wayanad, Idukki, Kozhikode and Malappuram. Torrential rains, this year as well, wreaked havoc in Kerala. The state is experiencing heavy floods, stormy winds and landslides.
The second round of the monsoon resulted in a rise of water levels of the rivers and dams across Kerala. The water level has gone significantly up in all the prime rivers in Kerala including Meenachal, Iruvazjinjpuzha, Chaliyar, Manimala, Valapattanam, Moovattupuzha and Pamba. The lovely town of Nilambur in Malappuram district is completely flooded, with the water level reaching the first floor of several structures there.
All the regions in the state have been evacuated after the Chief Minister's office asked district collectors to do so. Residents in the danger-prone areas have been taken away and a holiday has been declared in all educational institutions.
An emergency meeting was conducted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to know more about the ongoing flood situation. A CMO release said, "We have requested more NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams to be sent to the state. Already two teams have been sent to Nilambur and Idukki".
A number of houses in the state have been destroyed by floods, with only rooftop visible for some of the houses here. The rains have created havoc like situation majorly in the districts of Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram as the rivers there are overflowing. This has resulted in floods in a number of low-level regions of the state.
