Bikaner is home to this unique shrine where rats are held high in regards. The temple is famous its massive population of rats that are the permanent residents here. The temple dates back to the 15th century and is dedicated to Karni Mata, who is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga. Legends have it that when Karni Mata’s son died, she requested Yama to give back her son. On being denied by Yama, she herself restored her son and vowed that her family would never face death and will be in the form of rats. Well, leaving aside the folklore and religious faith, it is a once in a lifetime experience to be at the Karni Mata Temple.
