Ambubachi Mela is one of the largest religious congregations that eastern India hosts atop the Nilachal hills in Guwahati. During this time, hundreds of visitors from across the country visit the temple to offer their prayers in the temple.
Referring to this development, an official in the know-how stated that this time the authorities are planning to make it bigger this time. The authorities are expecting more than 25 lakh visitors and devotees from across the country and even abroad to visit this temple during this time. The official also mentioned that publicity has also been done through various mediums across the country to ensure the place registers increased number of tourist footfall.
Ambubachi Mela will continue till June 25. Also Devi Bhagwat Katha will be performed from June 22 by Sadhvi Aditi Bharti.
Ambubahchi Mela is usually held during monsoon, which is closely related to the tantric cult, also known as Kamakhya Devi Puja. It is believed that during this time, Goddess Kamakhya goes through her menstrual cycle, for which the temple remains closed for the next four days.
And when the temple doors are opened, the devotees wait outside to receive ‘prasad’, which are small bits of cloth, apparently moist with the menstrual fluid of Goddess Kamakhya.
