It is located at the foot of the Kaimai Mountain (2-minute drive from the McLaren falls turn off). Turn off on ‘Poripori Road’ and park your rental car up on the gravel patch to your right. What may not be so breathtakingly beautiful at first is what we call ‘the rough that hides the diamond’. We highly recommend you load up all your necessities in your backpack, because your adventure to paradise commences on foot from here and return trips will be unfavourable. Follow the gravel path that leads down to the Wairoa River. Locate the safest, shallowest part of the river and cross over to where an oasis awaits you. But like every valuable thing in this world, you have to work hard to find this diamond! Continue on foot over the rocky terrain, towards the overgrown bush. Here you will find a treaded dirt track that will lead you to the sweetest summer swim spot. Gushing fresh waterfalls, small rock pools, cliffsides to jump off and plenty of space on the rocks to soak up some sun or share a picnic lunch.
