Junagarh Fort has to be one of the most important places to visit in Bikaner. The construction of the fort started in 1478 under the rule of Maharaja Rao Bika (after whom the city got its name). This however took some time and the current structure that stands today is from the time of Raja Rai Singh and Raja Karan Singh. The fort is a fine mix of Mughal, Gujarati and Rajput style of architecture. The pleasing courtyards beautify the fort to another level. The artistically done balconies, courtyards, windows catch the eyes of the visitors and appeal to the fine side of human life. Mirror work, frescos and lacquer work make this fort look even more attractive and pleasing. The fort is also home to many mini mansions and palaces. When you are at Junagarh Fort, make sure to visit these places like Anup Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Dungar Mahal, Diwan-e-khas and Ganga Mahal.
