Vasari Corridor – Florence secret corridor of art is soon to be open for public

A secret corridor in Florence, the Vasari Corridor, which was previously only open for private tours and was later completely shut in 2016 is now open. Joining with the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, it is today a treasure trove of art, dating all the way back to the Middle Ages. It is now going to be reopened and is going to go through extensive renovations over the next year and a half.
At the Vasari Corridor, you will find yourself amidst the works of all the greatest artists in the world, all in one place. The renovation is going to include emergency exits, video surveillance, air-conditioning, and improved lighting. Visitors will also find the corridor with reinforced walls, and antique terracotta flowing; entry would be ticketed. The project is set to cost $11.3 million and is definitely going to attract visitors, especially those who take an interest in art.

About Vasari Corridor
The construction of this corridor was ordered by Grand Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici in 1564. Having been designed by Giorgio Vasari, the corridor was then named after him. In the days of old, the passageway was a mark of celebration of the marriage of Cosimo’s son, and it also allowed the Duke to travel between his home and his offices. Later in the 1940s, a set of panoramic windows were added by Benito Mussolini for Adolf Hitler’s visit.

There are over 1000 paintings here at the corridor, and especially interesting are the number of self-portraits that are hanging here by incredible artists such as Rembrandt, Raphael, and Elizabeth Chaplin.
