Jodhpur’s iconic MV Spices – it’s a (Wo)man’s world!

MV Spices is a story of one of Jodhpur’s most unlikely yet famous tourist attractions, and we are here to do a retelling of this story. When you get to Jodhpur’s busy Vegetable Market, find the Ghanta Ghar or the Clock Tower and look for Shop No. 209-B. Our story starts from there.

From outside, the shop may look unremarkable but step inside and you will know why the shop is one of the most popular places in Jodhpur. Known as the place to get the most authentic spices, MV Spice or Mohanlal Verhomal Spices is one man’s legacy that is now carried forward by a mother and her seven daughters.


They are lovingly called the Spice Girls of India.


Back in the 70s, Mohanlal Verhomal and his wife started a small and very homely enterprise of hand-grounded spices, not knowing that one day it would become a tourist hub and will have patrons from overseas!


It was a humble start that rightfully got recognised by foreign and domestic tourists and soon enough, by the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Visiting foreign tourists make sure to pay the shop a visit, to get some of the most aromatic spices and teas, and most importantly, to chit chat with one of the seven daughters who can be found manning the shop.
