A junk trip is the most apt way to experience Hong Kong, but in a different way. Junk trips have been a local tradition which involved a ride on traditional sampans (junk boats) usually lasting for an hour or till late dusk. These days, however, the red-sail sampans negotiating the waters of the bay are less common, almost a rare sight. Make advance bookings for one of the private vessels if you are a large group, or hit the fleets run regularly by some junk companies for a scheduled tour of the city. Aberdeen harbour is the usual starting point of journey. Incredible stops like the Lamma Island, where buildings taller than 3 storeys are banned, fall in way. The boat may also stop at the Poi Toi Island, which is populated by hardly 20-30 people! Obviously, you would have worked up an appetite during your sojourn — exactly what you need for a nice lunch and beverages to keep you full through and through.
