Iroquois Theatre

New Orleans’s Rampart Street is a bit away from the French Quarter, but has a string of Jazz landmarks. Unfortunately, all of them are in a dilapidated state, but that doesn’t take away their importance. At 413-415 of South Rampart Street is the Iroquois Theatre. It doesn’t look much from the outside, and is less impressive than some of the other landmarks on the street, but this was where many of the Jazz greats would have visited during the day. In its heyday, it was vaudeville and silent movie theater, undoubtedly the centre for creativity and entertainment and jazz musicians would have played accompaniments for stage shows and other acts. It probably served as an invaluable training ground for budding jazz musicians. But some of its fame also comes from the fact that legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong won a talent show as a young boy.
