IRCTC's Train 18 to go commercial before Kumbha Mela

Train 18 is India’s first revolutionary locomotive-less train, which is set to become country’s fastest train, crossed all the existing speed limits in its trial. The maximum speed limit by any train in the country was pegged at 180 km/hr before this. As per the reports, the train would be used for commercial purposes before the Kumbha Mela in Allahabad, which begins on January 14.

Train 18 would be running between the very popular Delhi and Varanasi. Allahabad lies at some 120 km from Varanasi, and this move will surely facilitate the travellers coming in for the Kumbha Mela.
Indian Railways launched this indigenously built train on 29th December, 2018, between New Delhi and Varanasi stations and replace all the Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains. As per the latest news reports, during the trial run conducted few days back, the train crossed 180 km/hr speed limit in the Kota-Sawai Madhopur station.

1) Train 18 is a completely air-conditioned train having 16 coaches.
2) The train is designed in such a manner that the passengers will be able to see the driver’s cabin.

3) Automatic door, inter-connected fully-sealed gangways, Wi-Fi, modular toilets, disabled-friendly toilets, GPS-based passenger information system and LED lights are some of the other prime features of Train 18.

4) Although the speed limit during the trial run crossed the limit and touched 180 km/hr, it will maintain a maximum speed of 160 km/hr for commercial purposes.
5) The fare of the train will likely be a little high as the input cost of the train is INR 100 crores.
