J&K to get fresh spell of rain and snowfall in the next couple of days

As per the weatherman reports, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh need to brace up for the next spell of rain and snowfall in the next couple of days, even as the region is already reeling under low mercury reading.
Srinagar registered the coldest night of the season on Sunday, with the temperature going down below minus 4 degree Celsius. It resulted in the freezing of water bodies, including the water taps in the residential areas and the well-known Dal Lake.

As of now, both the Union Territories are engulfed in a coldwave with the temperature hovering below the season’s several degrees. An official, quoting an advisory issued by the department, stated that an active western disturbance is most likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from Tuesday night to December 14 forenoon. He also added that under the influence of the current weather conditions, widespread moderate rain or snow is expected in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
The official further mentioned that the main activity in this region will be moderate to heavy rain or snow during December 12 and 13, which will likely decrease thereafter.
Latest reports also suggest that after a day-long closure, one-way traffic resumed on the 270 km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Monday. The officials informed that the decision to restrict the traffic to one-way was taken in view of the weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Department, which predicted widespread moderate rain or snow from Tuesday night to December 14 forenoon.
