Indonesia earthquake forces tourists to put Bali travel plans on hold

The 6.9 magnitude earthquake that has hit Indonesia’s popular Bali island has affected the travel plans of several tourists from around the world, including India. According to a report published in TOI, travel operators in India have seen tourists either cancelling or postponing their travel plans for the upcoming week. Going by the Indian Independence Day holiday on August 15, a lot of tourists would have done bookings for Bali; but the natural disaster has apparently made the situation grim on the island.

Recently, the earthquake tremors left the island of Lombok deeply affected. About 259 people on the island have been killed as per the news reports.Yet, long-term travel plans have not been cancelled; those who have done prior bookings to Bali want to go ahead, and travel to Bali for their vacation.

Bali has grown into one of the most favoured destinations among Indians for many reasons. First, it is very affordable, and second, it offers almost everything a tourist can expect from a vacation.
Even though it is in a seismic zone, Bali attracts a lot of tourists from India. It has historic locations, gorgeous resorts, hills and beaches, great food, Buddhism and yoga. All these features strike a chord with Indian travellers.

Another tourism operator told the newspaper that Bali is the number one tourist destination in Indonesia that the travellers from India prefer visiting to and from Chennai city. Jakarta in Indonesia is the next favourite. Although, some tourists have cancelled their bookings, majority of the booking have not been cancelled as this is not the peak season unlike December.
Meanwhile, the tourists are keeping a tab on weather news and are following the safety measures before finalising their trip to Indonesia. Enquiries about the safety on the islands have gone up after the earthquake disaster.
