Indian Railways planning to install CCTV cameras in trains

The government informed the parliament that Indian Railways is planning to install CCTV cameras in trains for increased safety of passengers, with premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto also considered under this plan.
Giving a written reply to a question at the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said, "It is under consideration to install CCTV cameras in nearly 58,000 coaches of suburban, passenger and mail/express trains including superfast and premium trains like Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi".
It is usually the joint effort of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) along with various district police forces that maintain the law and order in trains and ensure safety of the passengers. Gohain pointed out that on a daily basis, as many as 2,500 trains are escorted by the RPF on the vulnerable routes, while 2,200 trains are escorted by the GRP.

Explaining further on the security measures provided across Indian Railways, Gohain said that security cameras are already installed in 394 stations for the safety of passengers. Talking about further plans of the government with regards to this, Gohain revealed, "An integrated security system, consisting of surveillance of vulnerable stations through CCTV network, access control, has been sanctioned to improve surveillance mechanism at over 202 railway stations".
