Indian Railways' on-board entertainment for passengers is closer to reality

Indian Railways is soon going to bring more joy in the lives of passengers. The Railway Ministry has chosen something called RailTel, that is going to implement a project for providing free content on-demand to passengers. This means that you can now enjoy movies, news, and other such entertainment on-board, just like it is in aircrafts.
The Indian Railways app is going to help passengers with preloaded multilingual content. This includes movies, music videos, TV serials, devotional programmes, lifestyle content and more. The trains will have buffer-free services, which means you can enjoy unhindered entertainment. The items available for passengers would also get updated every now and then so that passengers can enjoy fresh entertainment every time.
The project will initially provide pre-loaded content that is already there at Indian Railways stations. They also offer free high-speed Wi-Fi service by RailTel. This year, Indian Railways is going to complete enabling Wi-Fi in over 4000 stations, and the content-on-demand app will then also be available at these stations as well as in trains.

Initially, the Indian Railways did try to bring in entertainment in trains on the lines of aircrafts. It was tried out in Tejas Express, and Shatabdi Express’ Anubhuti coaches. Unfortunately, during the first run of Tejas Express, passengers stole headphones and vandalised the screens. This led to the Railways’ decision of implementing entertainment options in personal devices via an app. With the new move, if you are travelling on a train that has the facility, all you have to do is download the app, and enjoy the free services.
