Chandigarh will be hosting Rose Festival from Feb 28

The Chandigarh Tourism Department and Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) will be hosting the Rose Festival on February 28, 29, and March 1 at the Rose Garden. As per the news reports, the said festival will have the theme of ‘Plastic Mukt Festival’.

The decision to host this festival was recently taken at a meeting that was held at the conference hall of the MCC Building, under the chairmanship of MCC Commissioner KK Yadav, which was also attended by Senior Deputy Mayor, and other officials of the UT Administration and the MCC.
The Rose Festival will also witness various cultural programmes, apart from competition events for youth, children, and senior citizens. The primary motive of organising such events is also to ensure maximum participation of the locals at the festival.
While competitions that have been planned for the festival will include rangoli and flower competition, there will also be competition of neighbourhood parks that are maintained by RWAs (Resident Welfare Association), spot painting, Rose Prince and Rose Princess competition, rose quiz, brass and pipe band competition, folk dance, photography, antakshari, Mr Rose and Ms Rose competition, Rose King and Rose Queen competition, floral hat competition and the best newly-wed couple competition.
Visitors attending this three-day festival can also enjoy a joyride on a helicopter, as private companies are interested in offering this facility this year. The said rides were introduced during the 2017 festival, and the MC is making efforts to keep the charges of the chopper ride affordable. Food stalls will also be set up to facilitate the visitors, along with art and craft exhibitions.
