The city is easily reachable through all modes of transportation.. Amritsar Airport, popularly known as Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, is located at a distance of about 10 km away from the city centre. Those travelling by train can book their tickets up to Amritsar railway station, which is well linked with major Indian cities. One can also reach Amritsar by road from nearby cities by taking roadways and state operated buses, which are extremely comfortable and easy on the pocket. Read less

One of the most convenient and pocket-friendly ways of travelling to Amritsar is by road. There are several state as well as private run buses operating from Delhi (460 km), Dharamsala (186 km), Dalhousie (176 km), Jammu (200 km) and Shimla (315 km). The G.T Road links Delhi and Amritsar.
By rail:
Amritsar railway station is well linked to all the important cities in Punjab along with other Indian cities and towns. There are frequent trains for Amritsar from Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Agra, Chandigarh and Kolkata, among others. It takes only 6 to 7 hours to reach Amritsar from Delhi. From outside the railway station, travellers can take auto rickshaws or taxis to reach anywhere in the city.
